Project Overview
The City is looking to enhance the delivery of public safety services with the design and construction of the North Sphere Fire Station (FS102). The fourth fire station would allow for faster response times which would help improve the delivery of services like medical, fire, and any other service calls. Expanding the existing services provided by the fire department would also help address the future growth and safety concerns in north Palm Desert.
The New Fire Station project is being designed to include the following:
Approximately 11,400 sq ft. building includes:
3 Apparatus Bays (This fire station will house a Ladder Truck)
Living Quarters
Offices
Workshop
Covered Parking
Solar Components: Panels, Battery, EV Charging Capabilities
Off-site improvements include road widening, a new traffic signal, and bike lanes
Current Project Status
The design of Fire Station 102 is complete.
Project construction bidding was initiated on November 7
Construction contract awarded to Cailba, Inc. during the January 9, 2025, City Council Meeting
Groundbreaking Event - April 10, 2025
Construction Start - April 2025

The project site is located approximately 1,800 feet north of the intersection of Gerald Ford Drive and Frank Sinatra Drive.

On January 9, 2025, The Palm Desert City Council awarded the construction contract to Caliba, Inc.
On January 9, 2024, The City of Palm Desert's Architectural Review Commission (ARC) approved the following design and station layout.
On January 26, 2023, City Council approved the design contract for the North Sphere Fire Station. See the presentation below.

Thank you for your message and for sharing your thoughts about pedestrian connectivity in the area.
Sidewalks and other pathways along roads such as Cook Street and Gerald Ford Drive are typically constructed as development occurs, with the private property owners responsible for installing the adjacent infrastructure. Building sidewalks before development takes place can often result in them being removed or rendered unusable once construction begins.
That said, the City continues to evaluate opportunities to enhance pedestrian access and connectivity as the area grows. We appreciate your interest in helping make Palm Desert a more walkable community.
