Update - 3/4/26:FS102 - Gerald Ford Street Improvement Project
The Gerald Street Improvement Project continues to make steady progress. The roadway has been reopened to two-way traffic, and no additional lane closures are anticipated.
Traffic signal poles have been delivered and installed; however, they remain bagged until the Fire Station site receives permanent power. Bike lane striping has been completed on both sides of the street. Work on the landscaped medians is ongoing and is anticipated to be completed by the end of next week.
The contractor remains actively engaged in completing the utility improvements associated with Fire Station 102 services, including water, gas, and electrical connections. City staff anticipates the roadway improvements will be completed by the end of April.
Project Overview
The City is looking to enhance the delivery of public safety services with the design and construction of the North Sphere Fire Station (FS102). The fourth fire station would allow for faster response times, which would help improve the delivery of services like medical, fire, and any other service calls. Expanding the existing services provided by the fire department would also help address the future growth and safety concerns in North Palm Desert.
The New Fire Station project is being designed to include the following:
Approximately 11,400 sq ft. building includes:
3 Apparatus Bays (This fire station will house a Ladder Truck)
Living Quarters
Offices
Workshop
Covered Parking
Solar Components: Panels, Battery, EV Charging Capabilities
Off-site improvements include road widening, a new traffic signal, and bike lanes
