Next Steps

The City of Palm Desert developed a Neighborhood Mobility Strategies Report for the Portola Avenue area. Community members were given the opportunity to participate in two workshops to provide input on community priorities and share comments on proposed traffic strategies. Based on feedback received during both workshops, the City finalized the Neighborhood Mobility Strategies Report. The City and the Living Desert will work collaboratively to implement the feasible short-term strategies identified in the report to enhance traffic flow and safety. In addition, the City is actively advancing several capital and operations projects that will support mobility in the area.

Overview

Portola Avenue connects residential communities to Highway 111 to the north and Living Desert Zoo and Gardens to the south. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens host popular events, such as WildLights, bringing more visitors and increased traffic to local neighborhood roads. The City of Palm Desert is looking for your feedback to better understand mobility in this area. This project aims to develop a suite of traffic strategies to address mobility while continuing to welcome visitors to the Living Desert. Based on your feedback and data collection, the project team will develop a study that identifies potential improvements in this area.

Community Engagement

On May 20, 2025, the City of Palm Desert held its second community workshop at City Hall to review the traffic strategies presented in the Portola Avenue Neighborhood Mobility Strategies Report and gather feedback from residents. The strategies shared with the community were developed based on input received during the first workshop and through the online interactive map. Community members participated both in person and virtually via Zoom, offering comments, concerns, and suggestions regarding the proposed mobility recommendations.
