About the Project

The City of Palm Desert is excited to announce an upcoming renovation of the playground area at Civic Center Park, the heart of our community and one of the City’s most popular recreation destinations.

Following City Council’s anticipated contract award to Western State Builders in December 2025, construction is scheduled to begin in mid-February 2026 and is expected to take approximately 90 days to complete.

This project will replace the existing playground with a brand-new, modern play structure designed to encourage active play, imagination, and connection among children of all ages. The improvements include:

New playground equipment and shade structures
Upgraded safety surfacing
Enhanced lighting and landscaping to complement the park’s natural beauty

Project Update - May 4, 2026

Progress continues at the Civic Center Park playground as grading work advances across the project site. Crews are shaping ground elevations to establish the new layout, improve drainage, and prepare for upcoming concrete and surface installations.

Footings are also being installed for new seat walls, marking another step in bringing the redesigned space to life. These improvements are transforming the area into a more inviting and functional destination for families and visitors.

The project will expand the playground footprint by approximately 25%, creating additional space for play, seating, and community use. As construction progresses, the upgraded layout remains on track to deliver a safer, more modern, and engaging playground at Civic Center Park.

The new design prioritizes accessibility, comfort, and sustainability, while adding playful design features and improved shade to make year-round outdoor play more enjoyable.
