Ironwood Construction Activity Update
Update (July 18, 2025):
Southwest Pump has informed the City that drilling operations are expected to reach their final depth today. The next phase of work—which includes running casing, gravel packing, installing the concrete seal, and consolidating the gravel pack—will begin Saturday and continue Monday through Thursday. This portion of the project may generate noticeable noise, but all work will be conducted during daytime hours only.
Once this phase is complete, the contractor will install and test the pump inside the vault as part of the final project steps.
Update (July 8, 2025):
Southwest Pump and Drilling, the contractor for the City’s well drilling project, is currently addressing a mechanical issue with the pump engine, which has temporarily paused drilling operations. Prior to the mechanical failure, the contractor had reamed several hundred feet of the well shaft.
Repairs are anticipated to be completed by Monday, July 14, at which point drilling operations are expected to resume. The reaming of the well is scheduled to be completed by the end of next week (Friday, July 18). Following that, the contractor will begin installing the casing, which is estimated to take 2–3 days. Once the casing installation is complete, crews will begin construction of the subsurface vault and pump house.
Update (June 24, 2025):
The well contractor has completed the initial drilling and underground surveys and is now expanding the borehole to its final size. Drilling has already reached beyond 160 feet, and while material deliveries are still underway, work is expected to continue for approximately 10 more days.
Update (June 16, 2025):
The drilling team reached a depth of 542 feet as of this morning and has encountered a hard rock formation that is impeding further progress. Drilling will continue until bedrock is reached at an estimated depth of 710 feet, which the team anticipates achieving later this week.
Ironwood Country Club is conducting well-drilling work near Buckboard Trail as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements. We understand that construction activity can create disruptions, and we appreciate the community’s patience during this project.
Location: Near Buckboard Trail, Ironwood Country Club
Status: In progress — anticipated completion of drilling: June 16, 2025
What to Expect:
Drilling operations are expected to conclude by the end of day on June 16, 2025.
Construction equipment will not be operated before 7:00 a.m., in consideration of nearby residents.
Dust control measures are in place, including regular water application to the work area.
Plant material at the site will be cleaned up and disposed of properly.
Crushed rock will be added to the road to help reduce dust from ongoing vehicle access by Ironwood, CVWD, and Edison crews.
Noise impacts will be minimized — pumping equipment will be installed in a subterranean vault.
We are committed to keeping residents informed and ensuring this work proceeds as smoothly as possible. Any additional updates from Ironwood Country Club will be shared here.
