How about a few Bocce courts!
There seems to be an abundance of pickleball courts in the area, but NO public Bocce courts. Yes, pickleball is popular, however not everyone is physically able to play. The closest I have found to a Bocce court was the Petanque courts at the Hovley Soccer Center. They may have been removed. Please, please, please consider installing some Bocce courts--somewhere! (With shade, of course)

Disc golf is the second fastest growing sport in the world!
Disc golf is the second fastest growing sport in the world (second only to pickleball). Currently in the Coachella Valley we only have two available disc golf courses, and one of those is a "pay to play course" that costs $25 for one 18-hole round of disc golf. The other course plays around the perimeter of Hovley Soccer Park, so this is a shared use facility. While the local disc golf community is thankful to the town of Palm Desert for making this facility available to pursue our sport, when soccer is active, it is often not possible to play disc golf as the primary usage is for soccer. Even with this limitation, the number of recorded rounds at Hovley in 2024 was in excess of 12,000 (on a common APP used by disc golfers) and this likely represents less than half of the actual usage. So, Hovley is heavily used on a daily basis by disc golfers. Many (most?) municipalities in the United States operate dedicated disc golf courses (i.e., the only usage is for disc golf). This is something we really need in Palm Desert, and it would serve a huge recreational market. There would likely be significant financial multipliers for Palm Desert associated with this facility as many of the players at Hovley are from out of town. Thank you for considering expanding the options for the sport of disc golf!

Disc Golf is for Everyone! 👍
Please include a generous area of the park for Disc Golf. Disc Golf is one of the fastest growing sports, second only to pickleball. However, Hovley Soccer park is currently the only park in the entire Coachella Valley that offers Disc Golf, and unfortunately it is unplayable most weekends and evenings due to soccer activity. The local Disc Golf community needs a place to play free from conflicting uses - an area dedicated to Disc Golf. We have an abundance of ball fields and racket sport courts. Let’s add a little diversity to the recreational amenities offered to our community members and visitors. Disc golf is a great way to get some exercise while enjoying nature. The sport is accessible to people of all ages, skill levels, and physical abilities. Discs are relatively inexpensive, making it easy for beginners to get started. The North Park offers a great opportunity to do a proper Disc Golf course in the western portion of the site, where the retention basin is planned. Please consider dedicating a descent sized area that will be functional for Disc Golf so the community has the opportunity to play and enjoy another fun sport in our city parks!

Looks Great, Don't Listen to the Haters
Thank you, this is awesome. I would personally prefer design 1, as it makes the playground and cloud plaza the 'heart' of the park, and it offers a slightly larger community garden. That said, either option would be lovely. Please do not listen to our negative neighbors who love to complain. The basketball court and soccer field are absolutely necessary, and anyone who says those "attract a different demographic" are simply being covertly racist. It's disgusting and inappropriate. An access point on Dinah Shore Drive is necessary and you've elegantly handled it in your design. Let's get this built, it will be a wonderful addition to the community!

Off-Leash Dog Lawn?
Would love to have a larger, open area where well-trained dogs could be allowed to legally be off-leash and under voice/sight command. To my knowledge, there is not a single open, off-leash lawn area in the entire Coachella Valley. I am specifically talking about an un-fenced, off-leash area. Many dog owners have had bad experiences at fenced, off-leash dog parks where there are owners who have less control of their dogs. An open, off-leash dog lawn is not something that is often used by untrained dogs, as there is no fence containment, and therefore good recall is a requirement. With the addition of this passive park with its massive grassy area, an open off-leash availability for dogs would be a great addition to the dog community of both Palm Desert and the entire Coachella Valley.
